چکیده

We have used warm-season data from the Atmospheric Radiation Measurement (ARM) Program's Southern Great Plains site to investigate he joint variability of the temperature and moisture soundings, and their relationship tothe variability of the generalized convective available potential energy (GCAPE). The actual temperature and humidity soundings vary together in such a way as to produce variations of the GCAPE which are far smaller than those which would occur if the relative humidity varied while the temperature sounding was fixed, or vice versa.

Estimating sampling biases andmeasurement uncertainties of AIRS/AMSU-A temperature and water vapor observations using MERRA reanalysis

We use MERRA (Modern Era Retrospective-Analysis for Research Applications) temperature and water vapor data to estimate the sampling biases of climatologies derived from the AIRS/AMSU-A (Atmospheric Infrared Sounder/Advanced Microwave Sounding Unit-A) suite of instruments. We separate the total sampling bias into temporal and instrumental components. The temporal component is caused by the AIRS...

Numerical Study of Spherical Vapor Layer Growth Due to Contact of a Hot Object and Water

Vapor film formation and growth due to contact of a hot body and other liquids arise in some industrial applications including nuclear fuel rods, foundry and production of paper. The possibility of a steam explosion remains in most of these cases which could result in injuries and financial damage. Due to the importance of such phenomenon, this study deals with vapor layer forming, growth, and ...

Spatial and spectral variability of the outgoing thermal IR spectra from AIRS: A case study of July 2003

[1] Here we present a survey of the spatial variability in different climate zones seen from AIRS data using the spectral EOF analysis. Over the tropical and subtropical oceans, the first principal component (PC1) is mostly due to the thermal contrast between surface and thick cold cloud tops. The second principal component (PC2) is mainly due to the spatial variation of the lower tropospheric ...

Annual Cycles of Tropospheric Water Vapor

To understand better the annual cycles of atmospheric humidity, radiosonde data were used to create climatologies of temperature, dew point, relative humidity, and precipitable water in the lower troposphere for 56 locations around the world for the period 1973-1990. On the basis of the annual ranges of relative humidity at the surface and at the 850, 700, and 500 mbar levels and the ratio of t...

Historical changes of temperature and vapor pressure deficit during the crop growing season in Iran

Climate change variables have rarely been analyzed specifically for the growing season of crops. In this study, changes in minimum (Tmin) and maximum temperature (Tmax), daily maximum saturated vapor pressure (VPsat) and estimated daily VPD weighted for transpiration (VPDtran) were examined at five locations in Iran over 40 years during the growing seasons of chickpea and maize. The results of ...
